About this resolution
Energy bills are usually based on actual meter reads. But in some situations, AGL might send a consumer a bill based on an electricity meter estimate, for example if your meter is broken or not accessible. The problem with a meter estimate is that the consumer might be charged for more electricity than they've actually used. If you think that's happened, you can use this resolution to make a complaint to AGL requesting a proper meter read and a revised bill.
Here are some tips for this resolution:
- Whenever your bill has been calculated with a meter estimate, a good first step is to check the meter yourself to see if the estimate is incorrect – and if so, by how much.
- If the estimated bill is incorrect, provide AGL with your own meter reading so they can recalculate your electricity bill.
- You might realise your bills have been based on estimates for a long time. This could mean there is a problem with your meter (like an access issue).
