About this resolution
In 2023, consumer organisation CHOICE gave Kogan a Shonky Award for tricking consumers into buying a $99 membership. Consumers shopping online with Kogan or Dick Smith (owned by Kogan) were shown a "free shipping" option that was ticked by default. In fact, the "free shipping" was part of a 2-week trial for Kogan Membership and the consumer would be charged $99 two weeks later. Consumers who were tricked into paying $99 for Kogan First membership can use this resolution to get a refund.
Here are some tips for this resolution:
- Show evidence that you've paid for the Kogan First membership, like an email receipt or a screenshot of a transaction in your internet banking.
- Explain that you were not aware you were signing up for a membership.
- Point out that you have not been using or receiving any benefit from the membership.
