Complaint about illegal septic system discharge from airbnb property affecting neighbor's health and amenity. requesting council intervention and property condemnation.
I wish to report an illegal septic system effluent discharge at 118 Kingfish Beach Rd Southport. This is an AirBnB property known as “The Shack” and is gets heavily booked. I live next door at 120 Kingfish Beach Rd For some months now the owners have left a large pit completely open next to our house and the discharge from their septic runs between our houses. We are below them so we cop the lot It stinks whenever someone next door flushes the toilet or has a shower etc. There are no collection or distribution pits or soakage pits at all, and no treatment plant. The smell is pretty bad at times. I am concerned about the health aspect, the mosquitoes breeding in it, being bitten by those mosquitoes, and the general negative effect this is having on our ammenity. I have complained directly to my neighbour but they dont seem to willing to do anything other than say that they may possibly pump the effluent back up the hill and let it run down over the ground towards my place once again. Highly illegal. I would like to request that council stop the neighbour renting out her property to paying guests until a proper treatment system has been legally installed. I believe that this is so serious that the property should be condemned and classified as “uninhabitable” for health reasons
