Disputing $416.30 bill for brief, unsolicited call consultation at gold coast university hospital. requesting charge reversal.
I’m disputing a $416.30 bill my wife and I received for a call consultation on 01/07/2024. The call lasted only one minute and repeated a question we'd already answered in a prior in-person visit. We didn't consent to this call as a formal consultation; it was unsolicited and felt like a follow-up, which we’ve already paid for. Charging this amount for such a brief, unrequested call seems like an error. Please review and reverse this charge. You can reach me at 0466 615 905 or sayaka.k1197@gmail.com for any further details. Thanks.

Long wait time, lack of sympathy, delayed pain relief, unprofessional behavior from nurses at gold coast university hospital.
I went to the ED at GCUH on Friday 12/04/24 after my bartholin abcess had burst. I had to wait for 9 hours to see a doctor. I was in so much pain, they made me wait for 4 hours before the nurse gave me painkiller. The nurses showed no sympathy. They were chatting and having a laugh behind the counter. This is so disgraceful! 9 hours wait!!!! I am a nurse myself and I find it appalling to be treated like this!

Customer experienced distressing care during miscarriage and wants their baby back after testing.
My name is Tori - Louise Thomas.

I had been bleeding with clots since Monday night 22/7/24 I first presented to GCU on Tuesday 23/7/24 with my symptoms to the B block level 2 I was asked how far along I was in my pregnancy at that point I was 8 weeks 6 days I was informed they don’t see anyone under 16 weeks and to go straight down to ED I followed there instructions went to ED I was seen after an hour for bloods within 1 hour of waiting I was asked to go and wait in the waiting area this then took 4 hours until I was seen by a doctor during this time my symptoms had become worse which I was told to inform the admin team so they could get someone to see me this wasn’t followed through until I was able to see the doctor. The doctor informed me that my hormone levels were looking good they tried to do an external ultrasound but unfortunately they weren’t able to determine what was the problem and if my baby was alive. The doctor tried to get me seen by epams for an internal but unfortunately they were busy and I was informed that they had sent a referral to them and I would be contacted within a day or two and if I hadn’t heard from them in a few days to follow up with them to be seen. This left me feeling overwhelmed stressed and anxious not knowing if my baby was alive and been told I may or may not receive a call and for me to follow up if I don’t. In my eyes my care needs weren’t met as my baby didn’t matter because it was under 16 weeks. I left ED and went straight to my doctors which he informed me from my full bloods that I had a UTI and also my platelets were high I was given antibiotics and asprin I was confused as I wasn’t informed of this at the hospital which I asked them to review my full bloods that was completed with my doctor against the bloods done at the hospital. I then went home very upset from the whole situation that I was dealing with I was still bleeding and clotting. The following day I contacted epams to see how long my referral was going to take I was informed they had my referral and they would phone me back with a day/time. I received the call back and was booked in to see them on Friday 25/7/24 at 9:30am. I was still experiencing clotting and blood during this time until Friday. I had my ultrasound and was informed by the ultrasound people that my baby didn’t have a heart beat anymore this news was devastating I was then seen by the midwife and doctor regarding my next steps for having a miscarriage. I opted for surgery as I didn’t want to do it by myself at home. I was booked in for surgery on Friday 26/7/24 I was told to go home and that they would call me after 1pm to explain when to come in and when I need to fast and take the medication prior to surgery. I received a call from epams regarding surgery for 26/7/24 for my miscarriage and I had informed the nurse of my current symptoms and she spoke with her nurse in charge whilst on the phone and she said she needed to speak to another doctor to see what I need to do she said I’ll call you back in a second during that second my symptoms were extremely painful she had phoned me back and I was asked to come to ED immediately and be taken straight to surgery and that they would inform the obstetrician team that I was coming in urgently. When presented to ED, they were not aware of my situation and it wasn’t taken seriously by the triage nurse at the front desk I was asked to sit behind the front desk facing all other patients in the waiting area that were presenting to ED. I explained again to the nurse that I was asked to come in urgently and that I was told I would go straight to surgery she said nothing was passed on to them I sat there for 30mins in pain and crying on my partner I kept saying to my partner I don’t want to sit here again for 5 hours I can’t do this again I was extremely stressed I tried to call epams but the phone had rung out and wasn’t answered. Another triage nurse came up to us and asked if I was ok this is when the first triage nurse turned around and said to her before I could speak with her I am handling her she then closed her glass window and phone someone and I was placed on a wheelchair and wheeled into short ED in a room during this time I felt safe the nurse informed me I was going in for surgery she took my bloods and put in my needle for fluids and then asked me question for surgery she was interrupted by another nurse as another patient was ready to go to surgery and she had to take them to theatre she said before leaving please remove all jewellery and I will get you to get into a dressing gown when she had returned I was removing my jewellery with my partners help she asked if I needed to go to the toilet I said yes as my pad was full again this was my 3rd pad since I left home and she gave me a dressing gown I took the pad and left the dressing gown as I didn’t feel comfortable walking passed other patients in a dressing gown in my current situation I was going to do this after going back to the room from the toilet when I went into the toilet I pulled down my underwear and seen I had passed my unborn child I was in stock and crying I placed my unborn child and wrapped it in the hand paper towel and when I opened the door to go back to the room my partner was right outside and told me that we had been kicked out of the room due to another patient and we were to go to the waiting area in ED I was distraught in that moment I was crying to my partner saying I think I have our baby in my hand I need to see a nurse I don’t want to sit out there again for 5 hours I don’t want to do this I can’t do this we went up to another nurse I explained I think I have my baby and I asked if she could check she said no and asked if I wanted a bag to put it in and I said yes and I told her I don’t feel comfortable going back out in the waiting area can you please ask the doctor to come and have a look please she said there is no room and I needed to go to the waiting area before leaving I asked the admin team I told them what had happened I ask if I could see a doctor to check if I had my baby in my hands they just got the same nurse and she said you need to wait in the waiting area. I sat in the waiting area with my unborn baby in my lap for 2 hours I was extremely uncomfortable and upset as other patients were looking at what i had in my bag as the blood had leaked to the bottom of the bag. After 2 hours I just wanted to leave I told my partner I wanted to go home and that I will op for option 1 which was to have my miscarriage at home I still had the needle for fluids in my arm we went back to short ED deck no admin team was there so we went back to ED traige nurse and I informed them I wanted the needle removed from my arm and I wanted to go home they let me back behind the desk on the same chair facing everyone in ED waiting area the guy nurse asked about my situation I explained I didn’t want to be here I wasn’t receiving the care I was told I would receive when presenting to ED for urgent surgery he said could I give me a minute to phone to epams to see how long and what is happening before leaving I agreed he came back after 10 mins at this point I just wanted to go home. He explained that the obstetrician were with two other patients in surgery that are bleeding and that they are calling to see if a obstetrician can come down and see me and asked for me to wait back in the waiting area I explained to him why I didn’t want to wait and he ended up convincing me to stay 30mins he ran up to the obstetricians area and came back and told us that they are coming but he didn’t know how long it was going to be but ask for us to stay he also said that they weren’t aware I was coming to ED for urgent surgery I agreed to stay another 30mins after another 15 mins I was called through by the obstetrician to short ED and they confirmed that I was holding my unborn child and I felt like only then I received the proper care that I was meant to receive immediately when presenting to ED at this point I was confused in shock and extremely upset I was hold my unborn baby for over 2 hours in ED waiting area I felt like no one cared about my care and my unborn baby this whole experience is distressing I haven’t slept when I close my eyes I feel like I am back in ED having to relive this over and over again in my head. I feel sick and questioning myself if I made the right choice to hand my unborn baby over for testing to see if there was a problem I feel like I made the wrong decision but I don’t know who to phone to get my baby back. I want my complaint to be addressed I don’t want this to happen to someone else in my situation please can someone call me and I want my baby back after testing I don’t want my baby to be discarded after the care I received at this hospital you don’t deserve to have my unborn baby I want my baby back please.
